Yancy Murray Madden of Ormond Beach was born July 24, 1937, in Palatka, FL, and passed away peacefully on May 31, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband and the father of her three sons Thomas W. Madden. Family members also preceding her are parents Cicero and Wilma Murray, sisters Sarah Urquhart and Caroline Stanton (James), first cousin William Gaines (Mary Sue), and Joan Gaines. She is survived by her three sons Chris, Michael (Kelly), and Shawn (Shawn), and grandchildren Shannon Woodill (Stephen), Patrick Madden, Abbey Cobb (Austin), Matthew Madden and Andrew Madden. Other surviving family members include; her sister Margaret Buhner (Bill), first cousin John Gaines, brother-in-law Thomas Urquhart, and numerous nieces and nephews. Yancy graduated from Palatka High School and Florida State University. She moved to the Daytona area and started her teaching career in Volusia County. In 1960 she married Thomas “Tim” Madden, and they enjoyed 28 wonderful years together. Their favorite times together were playing tennis, vacationing in the mountains, spending time at the beach, and time spent with family and friends. Yancy and Tim were very proud of their three sons; Chris, Michael, and Shawn. Yancy was especially proud that all three graduated from her alma mater FSU (Go ‘Noles!). One of her greatest passions was her grandchildren. She cherished her time with them, especially during their early years. She was a lifelong Christian and enjoyed her volunteer work at Prince of Peace Food Pantry and Thrift Shop. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister at Prince of Peace, where she was a parishioner for nearly 40 years. Yancy was married to Ramon Wrend in 2004 (the infamous “Hurricane Charlie” wedding), until his passing in 2011. They enjoyed traveling and playing golf. Yancy will be dearly missed by all her family and friends, as well as colleagues from her teaching days, and her game-playing friends. Her infectious smile, laugh, generosity and kindness will leave a lasting impression on us all.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 11:00 am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 600 S. Nova Road Ormond Beach, FL. A private family burial and luncheon will be held following Mass.
