Evelyn REPP Miller and Carl Frederick Miller were Shirley Mae Miller Shooks parents.  Nora Fernald-Repp-Miller was Shirley’ s grandmother. Dorothy Jean Miller- Garberick is Shirley’s sister who lives in Elkhart, In snd who loved her passionately- she is 2 years younger 93 born August 18, 1927.  Marion Miller Hulecki is Shirley’s youngest sister who lives in Ponce Inlet, Fl.  Please correct the obituary information since family would like to share correct information.

 Shirley Mae  Miller Shook a complex lady of her time.  I remember going with her and her sister to the poorest homeless shelter in South Bend, Indiana in the 1960,s to sing uplifting songs to the clients who gathered in the common area. We sang seasonal songs, hymns, children's songs,  patriotic songs and some requests (if she knew how to play them).  I thought at the time this is a different side to my aunt I wish I knew better. This is a thoughtful, caring, loving lady for these really poor people others have forgotten but she did not and while we were there she gave from the depths of her heart.  I believe she loved being a christian woman. I hope for that life long love that she has a place in heaven to rest.   She and her sisters Dorothy and Marian had their struggles and challenges in this life- but they also have had MANY blessings- good husbands, great children, sweet grandchildren and  the three sisters supported and loved each other over the years deeply. They knew early in their lives the pain of the loss of their own mother Evelyn and this brought them together.  Aunt Dorothy lovingly and proudly called the girls the 90 ladies. Who knew these girls would make it. To  90  They began life as migrant workers in the Michigan fields of cabbage and mint. As early as 3 years of age migrant children were expected to pick. And they did. Their diet meant they all lost their teeth by their early 20,s. Their father became a widower when they were Shirley 16 and my mom 12.  This was 1943 a few years before WW2 and they had to figure their lives out. I am amazed Shirley got a Music degree from IU Bloomington- given the time line just think of her perseverance.  Shirley was a complex lady- likely a product of her time in history- on the verge of women finding a way in our world and balancing what she believed a christian woman should do in  the world.  My hope is she knows now in her eternal peace
 which is the most important role of her life on Earth.
