John D. “JD” “Popie” Smith, age 66, passed away in S. Daytona Beach, Florida on January 31, 2018. He was born in Leesburg, Florida on March 18, 1951. John graduated from Evanston High School, Illinois schools and also attended Daytona State College. He married his loving wife Kelly A. Smith on July 23, 1997. John became a Supervisor and Master Mechanic for WCA in Orange City. John was a devout father and family man. He had a passion for working on trucks and cars; he also enjoyed watching old movies, cowboy shows and Perry Mason. Playing pool, watching sports, reading his Bible, spending private time with the Lord and family were some of his favorite things.
John is preceded in death by his father Benjamin Smith, brother, Phillip Elliott, Charles Elliott, brother, Leon Buchanan, daughter, Lynette Hall.
John is survived by his mother, Corraine R. Elliott; Sons, Marques Smith (Heather), John Harrison, Jr, Sean Smallwood; daughters, Linda Nickerson, Darlene Colbert (Wayne); sons, Kevin Jackson, Derrick Jackson (Esta); daughter, Christina Janey; sons, David E. Janey (Paris), James M. Janey; daughters, Kelly K. Janey , Jo’Nessa D. Smith, grandson, Keylan A. Smith; sister, Dorthea Elliott; brother Rubin Elliott, Sr., aunt Bessie Barker; mother-in-law, Avis Creeden. Also left to cherish John’s memory are many grandchildren, great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends and associates. A visitation will be held at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach from 10:00- 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2018 with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am.
