He was born to John and Carmela Oliva on January 27, 1939, in Jamaica, NY. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pat, three of his children, Jack (Anne) Oliva, Larry (Kelly) Oliva, and Tricia (Tony) Artusa, 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, his sisters: Maria Murray, Geraldine Oliva, Rosemarie Neu, and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph.
John earned his bachelor’s degree from NYIT. He served in the US Army and then joined the NYPD in 1961, where he was promoted to sergeant and was assigned to the Organized Crime Control Division. He retired from the force in 1977 and continued with his next venture. John started Atlantic Irrigation Supply and later in life, AGC Supply with locations in both Florida and New York. During this time, he became one of the first sales representatives for Hunter Industries. Due to John’s passion for golf, Atlantic Golf was founded. His desire to remain productive, along with his drive, kept him busy. He was a problem solver and could not be deterred when his mind was made up.
John and Pat moved to the Ormond Beach area in 1981. He was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church, Oceanside Country Club, the Moose, the Elks, and the 1013 Club. He was also the president of the Ormond Heritage Condo Assoc.
John enjoyed golf, cards, and dinners out. He loved to joke, and always appreciated a good deal. His work ethic, compassion, and generosity were unmatched. His love for his family was deep and unconditional, his favorite times were spent with them.
