Douglas G. Wieboldt, 70, of Ormond Beach, FL, and Suffolk, VA, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2021, with his loving and devoted wife Diane by his side. Doug was born to Robert F.P. Wieboldt and Agnes M. Wieboldt in Jamaica, NY, on November 25, 1950.
He attended New York City schools where he excelled in track, and played in a regional rock band. He continued his education earning a BS in Communications Engineering from NY Institute of Technology and an MA in Media and Communications from Norfolk State University. Doug was also active in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary both in Freeport, NY, and Virginia Beach, VA.
Doug had a distinguished career of over 50 years in the audio and television production industry. During that time he worked on recording some of the top popular music groups, as well as leading engineering teams developing audio and television productions and constructing production facilities for NY State, Riverside Church in NY City, Norfolk State University, and the City of Chesapeake, VA. He was also on the faculty of Norfolk State University.
Doug was a kind, funny, and friendly guy who never met a stranger. After his retirement he derived untold enjoyment traveling around the country in his motorhome while enjoying his retirement business with his beloved wife Diane while attending conventions nationwide where they sold jewelry, which they both designed, and accessories to Red Hat ladies.
Doug leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Diane, his daughters Colleen Stromberg (Chris) of Lebanon, NH, and Allison Hazzard (Sean) of Norfolk,VA, his grandchildren Katelyn Shellhorse and Hudson Hazzard, his stepchildren Melanie Wassom, Bryan Litchfield, and Brandon Litchfield, their children Mariele, Lea, Clay, and Hannah, as well as his brother Greg (Jan) Wieboldt of Ormond Beach, FL. He is predeceased by his parents and granddaughter Tamara Rathman.
Doug will be sadly missed by many.
Arrangements are being made by Volusia Memorial Funeral Home. No services or memorials are planned at this time.
