Dorothy Ashworth Russell of Port Orange passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023, at Halifax Hospital in Port Orange. She is survived by her son Phillip DiBona (Carmelita), her daughter Linda Johnson (David), her grandchildren Phillip DiBona Jr. (Patricia), Joseph DiBona (Kathryn), Heather Munoz (Christopher), April McGuire (Matt), and 9 great grandchildren.
She was born April 8, 1924, in Huntsville, Alabama. She was the daughter of Rev. William Ashworth and Viola Cobb. She was raised in a large blended family and lived in parsonages all over the state of Florida. She graduated from Young Harris Academy. After graduation, she proudly served our country in WWII where she was stationed in Santa Maria, CA with the USAF.
She and her late husband Walter Russell settled in Summer Trees in Port Orange in 1980. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years. After retirement, she worked as a food demonstrator at Publix.
She was an active member of Covenant United Methodist Church where she enjoyed being involved with the Fun and Fellowship group which gave her an opportunity to perform. She was known for her love of parties and good times, and no family get-together was complete unless costumes and parades were involved.
Her love of the Lord was important to her and she wanted to share it with others. She formed a weekly Bible Study in her home which continued when she moved to Countryside Lakes Assisted Living Facility.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 27, at Covenant United Methodist Church in Port Orange. Visitation will be held at 11:00 with service following at 12 noon. A private burial service will be at a later date.
