Dennis Michael Morgan, 71, of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away surrounded by loved ones on November 23, 2023. He was born and raised in Suffern, NY. Dennis graduated from Suffern High School where he was later inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame for Wrestling. He received his Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Political Science from the Dominican College of Blauvelt, NY.
He moved to Ormond Beach in 1984 to raise his children close to their grandparents, as both his parents and his in-laws had retired in Florida. Upon moving to Ormond, Dennis went to work for S.R. Perrott, Inc. where he was a sales manager for many years. In 1997, he became the manager and bartender of the Charlie Horse Restaurant where he worked for seven years. During those years at Perrott and the Charlie Horse, Dennis made countless friends and acquaintances across town and was referred to by many as their favorite “beer guy” and bartender. He came out of a very short retirement to work some special events at the Iron Horse Saloon and before long, he was working there full time. His Iron Horse work friends became family to him, and he enjoyed spending much of his time there even when he wasn’t on the clock.
Dennis was a fun-loving history buff who enjoyed riding his two Harley Davidson’s and loved sports, especially baseball and softball. In his younger years, much of his free time was spent playing on men’s and co-ed softball teams. He also loved to golf, and in recent years had a standing golf date that he looked forward to almost every Friday with some of his closest friends.
Of all the roles Dennis held throughout his life, the ones that were most important to him were being a Dad and “Papi” to his grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to let his children and grandchildren know how much he loved them and how proud he was of them. When his children were young, Dennis kept busy coaching their sports teams and even helped coach a baseball team that two of his grandsons were on. He loved watching his grandsons at their many sporting events and always let his children and grandchildren know he was their #1 fan.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Morgan. He is survived by his siblings, Judy, Edward and J.P. & his wife Donna Morgan; his children, Renee & her husband Don Deising and Denny & his wife Patricia Morgan; his grandchildren, Jake, Zack & Cain Deising and Whitney & Jack Morgan; his girlfriend of many years, Lisa Simmons; his ex-wife, Christine Morgan, whom he was married to for 39 years and remained close friends with; and his lifelong friends, Kevin Searle & Al Winters, who he considered brothers.
A funeral mass will be held for Dennis at Prince of Peace Catholic Church at 2 pm on Friday, December 8, and will be followed by a celebration of his life at the Iron Horse Saloon.
In lieu of flowers, Dennis’s family requests donations in his memory be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, as that was a charity Dennis was proud to contribute to for many years.
