Harwich, Ma - Richard Newcomb Gould Sr., 85, of Harwich passed away Thursday May 6, 2021 at CCH following a brief illness of Covid-19. Richard was born in Orleans, Ma on February 23, 1936, the son of the late Herbert W. and Vera M. Gould (Eldredge). Brother to the late Linwood E. Doane, and Maurence (Square) Gould. Survived by his sister's Estelle (Tweet) Clarke, and Celina Dewitt. Richard (Dick) grew up in Orleans, Ma and eventually withdrew from school at 16, to pursue a career at the Orleans Highway Department, which he served 43 dedicated years. At age 22 he enlisted into the US Army, in a Radio and Survival Specialist training in Panama for 2 years. While on a holiday leave he married his then long-time girlfriend.
Husband to predeceased wife Johanna T. Gould (McCarthy) of Ireland of 62 years. Survived by his children; Thomas Gould, his wife, Linda of Brewster, Ma, Michael Gould and his wife Andree also of Brewster, Ma. David Gould and his wife Kathy of Harwich, Ma and Richard Gould Jr of Clinton, ME., and Erin Ouellette and her husband Brian of Buzzards Bay, Ma. Dick enjoyed spending time with his family that included activities, such as; driving out to Nauset Beach for the day, staying at Fred's camp on Nauset Beach, his brother Square's camp and farm in Maine. He also, enjoyed cook-outs and parties with his family and many friends. Dick, aka; (Flattop) joined a local CB Club, that included outings with his family, and CB talk on road trips. Dick volunteered many years as a call firefighter, EMT to the Orleans Fire department.
Grandfather to predeceased; Kelly Brennan. Survived by; Sarah Rutherford. Janelle and Nathan Gould, his wife, Alyson. Amie Locke, her husband Drew, Shaun Gould, his wife Kellie, Lisa Brouillette, her husband Eric, Jodi Tague, and her husband John. Richard Gould III, his wife Ellie, Abigail, and Gabriel Gould. Destiny Lopes, her husband Mike, Patrick Nunes, his wife Alexa, and Olivia Ouellette. Also survived by ten Great-Grandchildren; Jonathan, Elaina, Vance, Remi, Avery, Rowan, Jayden, Nevaeh, Arabella and Zharia. Also survived by many nieces, nephews.
Throughout his life, Dick was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed sports of fishing with family and friends and hunting with his sons; Tom and Mike and friends; Ted, Richard, Rolphe and Blaine on the Cape and in Maine. Following his retirement Dick served as a Reserve Officer for The Orleans Police department detailing special events. He also worked odd jobs at; Mid-Cape Home Center, Nauset Marine and The Hook-Up.
Memorial visitation will be at Nickerson Funeral Home 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, Ma 02653 on Friday May 21, 2021, 6-8pm.
