Margaret ‘Peg’ Schermerhorn Sears, age 95, of North Chatham, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 10,2024, surrounded by her daughters. Born in Boston and raised in Waban, Peg was the daughter of Louise (Spear) and Horace ‘Skimmie’ Schermerhorn. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 68 years, Donald Quentin Sears. Peg spent her summers on Cape Cod, with her parents on Craigville Beach in Centerville and later in their home in Barnstable. Don and Peg raised their family in Wellesley, then resided in Holliston for 9 years before moving to Yarmouthport on Cape Cod for 23 years. Peg attended Newton High School, graduating from Beaver Country Day School which she attended in her senior year. She majored in art at Skidmore College in New York. Peg was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, embroidery, painting coats of arms, and making stained glass. She played the piano for many years and enjoyed playing bridge. After retirement Don and Peg loved to travel in the U.S. and Canada visiting National Parks in their motor home. Later in life while in Independent Living in Hopkinton she watched the birds at her feeders and especially appreciated visits from her Cardinals.
Peg is survived by her daughters, Jane Sears Pierce and her partner Daniel Goodwin of Holliston, Laura Sears Brady and her husband, Paul Francis Brady Jr. of Eastham, Margaret Lynne ‘Mardy’ Sears and her husband Venkatesh Gopal of Evanston, IL. She also leaves behind grandchildren Christopher Donald Pierce and his wife Amanda Elizabeth Pierce of Blackstone, Sarah Jane Pierce of Wrentham, Ashwin Sears Gopal of Evanston, IL, and great-granddaughter Penelope Elizabeth Pierce of Blackstone, plus one additional great-grandson due in March; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Horace ‘Skid’ Schermerhorn and his wife Jos, and Sister Joan Schermerhorn Whoriskey and her husband Fred.
The family would like to thank the many home aids and nurses who cared for Mum over the last few years.
Mom was deeply loved and will be forever in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home of Sandwich, 154 MA-6A, www.dignitymemorial.com Interment at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will take place with family at a later date.
