S. Wellfleet & Moorhead, NC – Margaret Halliwell Hale, 103, died Nov. 13, 2010 in North Carolina. She was the wife of the late Russell G. Hale.
Mrs. Hale retired to S. Wellfleet from Scarsdale, NY in 1972. She moved to Moorhead, NC in 2007 to be near her family by choice, Bill and Carol Strakele.
Margaret worked for 20th Century Fox Studios as an editorial representative for many years. She also enjoyed being a free-lance writer during the early days of radio. Margaret wrote for First Nighter, Talkie Picture Time, Lux Radio Theater, and Great Novels of the Air. Thirty of her produced radio plays were accepted into the Congressional Library of Recorded Sound in Washington DC. She also wrote recruiting articles for Navy Nurses during World War II, as well as being a contributor to the New York Herald Tribune.
Mrs. Hale was presented with the Boston Post Cane in 2005 for being the oldest resident in the town of Wellfleet.
She is survived by her family by choice Bill and Carol Strakele of North Carolina, and cousins in Cheshire, Worcester, and Hampshire, England.
Calling hours will be held from 10a-11a on Friday, Nov. 19th at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. Burial will follow immediately after at Orleans Cemetery.
