Lorraine Inez Kmiec

Lorraine I. “Rainie” Kmiec passed away peacefully on November 9, 2018 after a long illness. She was a loving mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother as well as a good friend to many “locals”. Rainie was born in Chelsea, MA on April 15, 1919 and summered on Cape Cod before moving to Wellfleet permanently with her three children in 1952.

She worked as a clerk as well an acting post mistress at the South Wellfleet Post Office for over 34 years. Upon her retirement from the postal service, she traveled extensively as well as enjoying spending time with her grandchildren and many friends.

Predeceased by her husband Henrich and her beloved son Rodman A. “Sandy” Kmiec, she is survived by her son Richard Kmiec (of Eastham) and her daughter Lori and husband Richard Hedlund, (also of Eastham), six grandchildren and five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A date for her memorial mass will be announced in the Spring of 2019.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Wellfleet Police/Fire Associations, The Eastham Police/ Fire Associations or Hospice of Cape Cod, these organizations all being near and dear to her for all the help rendered by them throughout the years.
