Hiram Price Ball Jr.

Hiram was born on Good Friday at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA April 19, 1946 to the late Hiram Price Ball Sr., Pittsburgh, PA and the late Florence Helen Campbell Ball, Brazil, IN. And to his late grandparents, George Loyal Ball, Lillian Irene Price Ball, and John Andrew Campbell, Emma Jones Campbell.

He had two sisters, the late Victoria Irene Ball, Providence, RI and Susan Campbell Ball who resides in Pittsburgh, PA.

Hiram attended and graduated from Middlesex Township Elementary School, Mars Area High School, and Franklin and Marshal College with a BA in government.

He joined the USMC as a reserve upon graduation. He began his business career in 1969 in the Glass Fiber Division of Pittsburgh Plate Glass, Pittsburgh . He married his wife, Margot Cowdrey Hill on August 28,1971. They lived in Buffalo, NY and Chicago, IL and moved back to Pittsburgh, settling in Sewickley, in 1977. That is where they raised their two sons, Alexander McClure Ball, Los Angeles, CA and Justin Campbell Ball, Marietta, GA.

In 1980, Hiram left PPG and joined DSMBV, a Netherlands-based company as it’s North American Director to commercialize the company’s technology in the fledgling Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete ( GFRC ) market. He founded “Ball Consulting, Ltd “ at that time to commence the discovered technology for global markets of applications with the Dutch chemical company, DSM . He traveled the world.

He sold his business in 2012 to Smooth-On, but remained as a consultant for them.

While living in Sewickley, PA he was an avid polo player, playing for the Sewickley and Darlington Polo Teams. Following in his father's footsteps who had played as a young man. Hiram was a registered player in the United States Polo Association and served as the Sewickley Polo Delegate for many years.

Upon retiring to Cape Cod with his wife, he continued his passion for figurative sculpting. He was self taught - taking workshops and studying anatomy books to perfect his skills. His studio, “ Atelier Ball” was in Harwich, MA.

Hiram was a proud member of the National Sculpture Society in NY, Cultural Center of Cape Cod, Cape Cod Museum of Art, Cotuit Center For The Arts, PAAM, The Beachcombers and Paul Schulenburg’s “Wednesday Painting Group“, as the sole sculptor.

Hiram received the “Outstanding Achievement Award“ from the Glass Reinforcement Concrete Association and accolades from the Cape artist community for his pieces. Culminating in an exhibition and talk of his work through the years- “Hiram Ball: Master of Media “ at the Cape Cod Museum of ART, the end of January of this year. Where one of his bronze relief sculptures was accepted into it’s permanent collection.

He is also survived by Erica Hanrahan, Los Angeles, CA, Justin’s wife, Kelli Ann Cooper and his grandchildren, Felix Milo Ball and Matilda Charlotte Ball of Marietta, GA.

Along with his two sons, they were ”the lights of his life“. He was their beloved “Pepere”.

A memorial / celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.
