Ed Dyer, 83, of Brewster, a loving husband, devoted father and faithful friend slipped peacefully to sleep on Sunday, August 31 after a heroic battle with Alzheimer’s.Ed will be remembered for his four year service to his country in the Navy on an icebreaker the USS Edisto and his proud and selfless service as a member of the East Orange, NJ Fire Department, where he served for 35 years and rose to the rank of Acting Battalion Chief.
His love of travel, making new friends and interest in the world around him was only surpassed by his extraordinary love, devotion and dedication to his family; his wife, Helga Hellhake Dyer, his sons: Jeffrey and his wife Karen of NJ, Carl and his wife Mary of OH, Edwin III of CA and his daughter: Valerie and her husband Kenneth Dodds of NJ and his grandchildren: Kayla, Shannon, Joelle, Corey, Morghan, Philip, and Justin.
Born in East Orange, NJ, Ed was the son of the late Myrtle and Edwin Dyer Sr. in 1990, Ed and Helga retired to a full life of traveling, volunteering, carving and happiness. He was an active member of the Orleans-Eastham Elk’s Lodge #2572, the June Noll’s Carving Club and a St. Joan of Arc communicant.Friends and family are invited to Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, on Thursday, Sep 4 from 4-7 PM for calling hours.
