David was born on August 28, 1967 in Hyannis, MA, the son of the late Meryl “Dave” and Dorothy “Dottie” (Dennison) Root.
Following high school, Dave served in the U.S. Army until 1990. He was a fisherman alongside his brother in law, David Dion and fished with numerous friends. He was in the merchant marines until the birth of his second son. He held many jobs, was a Jack of all Trades and then started employment with the U.S. Post Office on Cape Cod.
On June 22, 1996, he married Jennifer Leigh Lamothe in West Barnstable, MA
He and Jen moved to Vermont in 2002 where he continued his employment with the Postal Service at the Distribution Center in Essex Junction.
Dave was an amazing Father, Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and friend to so many. He was always the first to lend a hand to anyone in need whether a friend or neighbor. He was an avid fisherman and a great cook with a great sense of humor. He won several awards while in the Army for his culinary skills. He enjoyed sharing many stories of his days in the Army and his childhood.
In addition to his wife Jen, Dave will be deeply missed by his loving sons, Connor and Griffin, by his mother Dottie Root and her companion Joseph Gavigan of Cape Cod, his brothers and sisters Debbie Chase of Texas, Donna Vernen, Deidre Root, Daniel Root and his wife Heidi all of Cape Cod and Diana Dion and husband David of Texas. Dave is also survived by his mother and father in law Patricia and Gerald “Jay” Lamothe Jr., his brother in law Jeff Lamothe and wife Mindy, Jen’s grandfather Gerald Lamothe Sr., and he and Jen’s best friend Jennifer “Mac” Condon all of Cape Cod. He was recently predeceased by Gerald Sr.’s wife Elaine Lamothe. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts and a loving extended Gavigan Family.
Visiting hours will be held at the Nickerson Funeral Home in Orleans, MA on Sunday December 12, 2010 from 2-5 pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the Nickerson Funeral Home on Monday December 13th at 11 am. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Orleans Cemetery.
