Carl was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on April 20,1922 to John Theodore Lindahl and Ida Friden Lindahl. During the Depression his family moved to New York City, where Carl attended grade school and high school. Carl and his family moved to Worcester, MA, where he earned his associate degree at Worcester Junior College. He was honored later in life by being elected to the Board of Governors of the college.
Carl served his country during World War II, when he was stationed in Alaska and subsequently in California with the 9206th Technical Services Unit. Carl continued his education at Clark University and Boston University. He was president of his class at the American Institute of Banking in Worcester. After moving to Connecticut, he graduated from the Graduate School of Savings Banking at Brown University. He was a vice president and loan officer of Berlin Savings Bank in Berlin, Connecticut. He was also chairman of the Heart Fund of Central Connecticut, served on the Board of Klingberg Family Centers of New Britain Connecticut, and was president of New Britain Family Services. He was an active member of the Camp of Gideon in Connecticut and later of Cape Cod. After many decades of visiting the Cape each summer, Carl and his wife Miriam spent 1986 as innkeepers at the Ship’s Knees Inn of Orleans before retiring to the Cape in 1987.
During retirement, Carl was a member of Christ Chapel in Centerville, Nauset Baptist in Eastham, and for many years attended Brewster Baptist in Brewster. Carl made friends easily, and he and Miriam enjoyed wonderful lifelong relationships with church friends in New England. Carl and Miriam always looked forward to spending winters in sunny Melbourne Beach, Florida, where they were welcomed back each year by their “Florida family” of friends for meals together, game nights, or even the occasional round of golf.
He is survived by his beloved wife Miriam (Quarnstrom), to whom he was married for 75 years, and his children Paul Lindahl and wife Judy of Eastham, David Lindahl and wife Janet of Orleans, and Nancy Sherwood and husband Clinton of Elkridge MD. “Pop-pop” was grandfather to Haley and Brinn Lindahl, Emily and Ian Lindahl, and Hannah and Andrew Sherwood, and was great-grandfather to Huck, Loki, and Zev Grant. He was predeceased by his brothers John and William (Billy) Lindahl.
