Martha Ann Cox

Martha Ann Cox, affectionately known as Mom, Momma Honey, Gramma or “GG” departed from our lives on September 7th, 2023, at 87. She was born on May 21, 1936, in Climax, Georgia, and from that moment, her journey was marked by love, faith and unwavering devotion being the youngest of 7 children. Martha moved to Boca Raton Florida with her family when she was a young child and it is there that she grew up, graduated from high school, met and married a young soldier by the name of Jim Cox.

Martha's faith was her guiding light, illuminating her path from a young age. At the tender age of 12, she found salvation and embraced a Christian life that would define her character and the love she radiated throughout her life.

Martha faced adversity with unparalleled strength. A loving and devoted wife to Jim, her early widowhood meant she had to raise her children largely on her own but the challenges and joys saw it grow to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Martha's enthusiasm for sports was infectious. She cheered passionately for anything Tampa including the Rays, the Buccaneers, and the Lightning as well as the Florida Gators and Atlanta Braves. Game days were not just events, they were occasions for family and friends to come together in passionate celebration.

Her love for reading was a testament to her intellectual curiosity. She also loved bowling, playing card games, and the thrill of bingo at the VFW club, where laughter and love filled the room.

Beyond her family and interests, Martha's career as a patient advocate at ORMC showcased her compassion and dedication to the well-being of others. Her kindness touched the hearts of countless patients and colleagues, earning her the prestigious title of Employee of the Year twice.

Martha's life was an adventure. As a military spouse and world traveler, she spent years living as a far afield as Alaska and Germany, creating lifelong friendships along the way. In her later years cruises were her source of enjoyment, so she could travel and gamble at the same time.

Martha loved being a grandmother and great grandmother and taught many of them how to drive (albeit with both feet) cook, play games & cards and the love of reading. She loved watching them play sports and cheerleading.

In her later years, she enjoyed living in a high rise apartment over looking downtown. She worshipped at Downtown Orlando Baptist where she was a member and was also a member of the Wedgefield Red Hatters Club and loved her Wedgefield Bunco group.

Martha is survived by her daughters, Carol McCrudden (Micheal), Kathy Whitmire, and son, David Cox and 6 grandchildren; Heather McCrudden Woodhouse (Jay), Shawna McCrudden, David Cox Jr (Andrea), Marie Cox, Kathryn Cox, and McKenzie Cox and 9 great grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed but never forgotten for her love and legacy will forever live on in our hearts.

A visitation for Martha will occur on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 10:30 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at the Baldwin Fairchild at Chapel Hill located 2420 Harrell Road, Orlando, Florida 32817. A committal service will be held the same day following the funeral service at Chapel Hill Cemetery located at 2400 Harrell Road, Orlando, Florida 32817.
