Born March 21, 1940 in Dade City, Florida to Chester and Carrie Dawson, Ann moved to Orlando at the age of 6 months and spent the entirety of her life there. She was the second oldest of 5 and the only girl. Ann truly enjoyed growing up with her four brothers: Leland, Joe, Jerry and Marvin.
Ann graduated from Boone High School in 1958 and maintained contact with her classmates through regular reunion events which she assisted in planning. Throughout her life, Ann held several jobs where she established lifelong friendships, but it was her job at Martin Marietta that led to her meeting her husband of 56 years, Gene Smith whom she married September 1, 1962. Ann left Martin after the birth of her daughter to stay home and care for her children, Wade and Kim. When she returned to working, she worked as a medical assistant in a physician’s office, but eventually returned to Martin Marietta in the late 1970s and worked her way up to Manager of Community Relations. She retired at the age of 55 and enjoyed many years traveling, spending time in the mountains of North Carolina, cooking, gardening and caring for her beautiful home and yard. Ann had many interests, but her family and friends were most important in her life. She was a gifted and intelligent spirit who was selfless and would provide help and encouragement to others without hesitation. She was a fantastic cook and baker, often cooking meals and desserts for her family, neighbors and friends for no reason other than to share her love with them. Ann was a wealth of information and talent. She grew the most beautiful flowers and garden seemingly effortlessly and was the person to call for any questions related to household projects, plants, cooking and finances.
Ann was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed. Our lives will be forever altered by her passing. Preceded in death by her loving husband Gene and her son Wade, Ann is survived by her daughter Kim Olson, son-in-law Rod Olson, daughter-in-law Susan Price Smith, and granddaughters Grace Olson, Rebecca Olson and Shelby Melfi (Dave and Gianna).
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." John 14:1-3
“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Psalm 4:8
