Lydia was born on January 20, 1926 in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico. She was the daughter of the late Atanacio Hernandez and Antonia Rivera.
Lydia was a devoted homemaker, Girl Scout leader, school and church volunteer. She was active with the Women's Guild of Holy Cross Catholic Church before her illness. Lydia was a resident of New York City for over 30 years before retiring with her husband to Orlando in 1989. She enjoyed hostessing many gatherings with family and friends in their homes.
Lydia was preceded in death by her siblings, Atanasio Hernandez, Hernán Hernandez, Aparício Hernandez, and Dalia Rullan.
Lydia is survived by her devoted husband, Michael DeHaan, to whom she was married over 61 years, daughter Emma Milazzo of Orlando, and her husband Jack, daughter Barbara Stapleton of Attleboro, Massachusetts and her husband Thomas, grandchildren Lauren Brusa and her husband Juston, Brianna Milazzo, Brooke Stapleton and Kyle Stapleton. Lydia also leaves her adored great granddaughter Adelynn Brusa and her brother Roberto Hernandez.
She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Family Funeral Care of Orlando.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 12600 Marsfield Avenue, Orlando on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 followed by interment at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
