George Smallwood

George was born on December 18, 1937 in Beech Grove, Indiana to the late Howard E. and Ethel G. Smallwood. He was a 1956 graduate of Manual High School, where he excelled in football, wrestling, and track.

George was married to Jackie Hoagland Smallwood, his beloved wife, for 47 years until her passing in 2008.

George was a respected, skilled, and much loved electrical engineer. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati, his Master’s degree from UCLA and his MBA from Rollins College. He worked for Indiana Power & Light as a student, Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica following graduation, Martin Marietta designing guidance systems, and Design & Tech Manager with Fairchild Semiconductors in Orlando from 1969-1988. George then moved to Taipei to become head of the PacRim for Signetics/Philips, eventually retiring from Philips in the Silicon Valley in the year 2000.

George loved life and adventure. He always willingly volunteered, organized and chaperoned his daughters activities as they grew up. His hobbies included fly fishing, dog obedience training, traveling, reading, nature photography, hiking, environmental activities, and local politics. Fascinated with magic throughout his life, he performed for his grandchildren's birthday parties, company gatherings, and fundraisers. He earned the Order of Merlin Shield and was an active member of the Brotherhood of Magicians. He also challenged himself to try community theater in his 70’s, performing in several plays.

Surviving family members include daughters Dawn McMullin (Gary), Joan Pichon, granddaughter Morgan Tinker (Steven), and great-grandchildren Raegan Mackenzie and Beckett Thomas. He was predeceased by grandson Matthew McMullin in 2018.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on December 18, 2021 at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Orlando.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the National Audubon Society.
