Born on September 25, 1953 in Dade City, Florida, he was the son of Ralph Simpson and Yvonne Boykin.
Dan was the loving husband of Joan M. Simpson. After meeting in North Dakota and having a short engagement, they married and moved down to Florida. They shared almost 50 years together and were able to celebrate a little early with an unforgettable trip to Alaska.
He retired in March 2022 from Walt Disney World after working 40 years and the last position he held was as a Planned Work Specialist. He was the best dad, always supporting his kids and showing up to every big and small life event. Next to being a great dad, he was the proudest Papa. He loved all his grandkids and worked so hard to be at every birthday party, school event, and extracurricular activity. He enjoyed softball in his younger days and had a passion for fishing that lasted a lifetime. He loved spending time with his family and always put them first. He enjoyed watching MSNBC, any and all kind of sports (especially the Little League World Series and FSU football), playing Fantasy 5 and pressing his luck with scratch-off tickets. He will be remembered as the guy who loved unconditionally, was light hearted and always wanted to make people laugh, and sometimes a bit sarcastic.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Simpson; daughter, Shannon Simpson (Sabrina Bunnell); son, Daniel M. Simpson Jr. (Jennifer Hawley); grandchildren, Haleigh Hawley, Addison Simpson, Kyleigh Simpson, Tripp Simpson, Brett Simpson, and Kynnlee Simpson; sisters, Debbie Decker (Auggie) and Vita Davis; brothers, Jim Boykin (Lisa) and Donald Boykin; and his loyal pup, Riley.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Simpson and mother, Yvonne Boykin; stepfather, Jim Boykin; sister, Deanna Boykin; brothers, Richard Simpson, David Simpson, and Charles Boykin.
The memorial service will be held on July 11, 2024 at 3:00-6:00pm at Baldwin Fairchild Alternatives at All Faiths, 4901 S. Orange Ave, Orlando, FL 32806.
