Elizabeth Mae Hill (nee Moldenhaurer), beloved wife of Everett J. Hill, passed away on April 26th, 2021. She was the loving mother of Robert E. Hill (Debbie) and Cheryl Beth DeCeault (David); Proud grandmother of David Hill (Kari), Kristin Killgore (Jefferson), Patrick Hill (Jessica), Alissa Vaniter (Chuck), Lindsey Denison (Kyle), and Krista Strukoff (Ryan); Proud Great Grandmother of Dane, Alex, Erin, Siri, Cadel, Rinny, Rhythm, Hendrix, Avery, Parker, Jude, Colins, and Grace; Dear sister-in-law of Joyce Foote and John Katzberger and former mother-in-law of Jean Hill. Elizabeth was proceeded in death by her husband Everett, sister-in-law Carol Katzberger, her parents, Arthur and Elizabeth Moldenhauer, and her dearest of friends, Shirley Killbride (Chuck).
Elizabeth was a loving and kind-hearted woman. She found great joy in being a wife and staying home much of her life to raise her children. She was most proud of her 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren who loved her dearly. Elizabeth was christened at Thorburn Methodist Church in Chicago. She married Everett J Hill at Drexel Park in 1947. She was an active member of Grace United Church of Christ and is presently a member of Peace Memorial Church in Palos Park, IL.
She attended O’Toole Elementary School and Harper High School. She has an associate degree from Wilson Jr. College in Chicago. While at Harper, she was a Charter Member of the Woo Woo’s – 1938. This group of eight dear female classmates began a “club” that lasted until her passing. They got together regularly throughout the years and she was the last living member of her club.
Elizabeth worked for a period of time at Sears Roebuck in the accounting department, while her most fulfilling and fun job was working as a Cookie Lady at Hoeffkens Bakery in Chicago for 12 years. She was active in volunteering at O’Toole Elementary School and Harper High School PTA with a life membership and also sang in the O’Toole Mother Singers.
Elizabeth spent much of her time serving at Drexel Park Presbyterian Church. Some of her many activities were serving as the Director of Vacation Bible School (Kindergarten class) and serving as the president of the Women’s Association, also serving as a Deacon.
Elizabeth and Everett took a giant leap of faith and moved to Memphis, TN in 1998 to live near Cheryl and her young family. Elizabeth lived there a total of 10 years, 5 after her husband’s passing. There she was active in the Collierville United Methodist Church and participated in the Seniors Group at Trinity Baptist Church. Elizabeth moved to Lee’s Summit, Missouri and built a nice home. This move was very important. In 2010, she suffered through two significant surgeries that disabled her. Following those surgeries, she moved in with her son, Bob, in Lake Lotawana, Missouri where she was able to be cared for. Elizabeth was still active in her own way during those years by writing letters to her friends and talking with friends and family on the phone daily. It was a bad day if she missed her favorite TV shows, The View and Let’s Make a Deal. It became necessary for her to be moved to The Groves in Independence, Missouri in December 2016 where she resided just prior to her passing.
One of Elizabeth’s favorite songs was “You Are My Sunshine”. Before bed many nights, her family would sing it to her (the regular version and a fun “rap” version). They will miss the late-night phone calls of talking and singing but will continue on singing grandma’s song with grateful hearts.
