Lawrence Wayne Rood, 66 years of age, born April 10, 1953 in Orange Park, FL, went to the Lord unexpectedly on February 25, 2020. He was the oldest of four children and was a graduate of Griffith Institute and Central School in Springville, New York.
He retired as a Chief in the Navy after a 20 year career that spanned from 1972-1992. After retiring, Larry became a professional photographer and most recently photographing his niece’s wedding. He was currently employed at Park Avenue Florist.
Larry was also employed as the Area Supervisor for the Society of St. Andrew, which is a faith based non-profit that is committed to relieving hunger.
Larry was a man of Faith and was a member of the Springs Church. He was a former member of Calvary United Methodist Church from 1992 – 2019. He was active in many groups, including the food pantries, community outreach and the church choir at Calvary UMC. He was also involved with the Sunshine North Via De Cristo. Larry also volunteered as a photographer with his local Rotary Club.
He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Diane; his daughter Traci Lynn Zang; stepchildren, Bambi, Daniel, and Joshua (Stacie) Halladay; mother, Patricia Pritchard Salzler; brother, Michael (Karry) Rood; sister, Sandra (Kerry) Askin; 3 grandchildren, Autumn Wilson, Connor Magee, and Thomas Zang; 2 step grandchildren, Giovanni and Sayde Lancelotti; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his first wife, Brenda Hinton Nevitt. He was predeceased by his father, James Rood and an infant brother, William Rood.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to The Society of St. Andrew in Larry’s honor.
