James (aka Jim or ‘Murph’) was born in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was predeceased by his parents Francis and Eunice McElroy Murphy, as well as three siblings: Catherine Jillson, Mary Zingale, and Elizabeth Canfield. He is survived by 3 siblings: Patricia Clark and husband Kenneth of FL, Anne Topper-Hall of CA, and Robert Murphy of NC. There is a long list of nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews who will miss their Uncle Jim. Murph is also survived by his decade’s long friend Sarah Roundtree (Crews) and her family of Jacksonville, FL.
Jim graduated from High School in Lake Placid, NY and joined the Army shortly thereafter. Jim has been a resident of Jacksonville, FL or over 40 years. He served his country in Viet Nam as a front-line Medic. After completion of his active duty tour, he remained in the Army Reserves and was called up to serve his country again in Desert Storm as a front-line Medic. He continued his education and received his Bachelor’s Degree. His ongoing safety and medical training continued through-out his lifetime and served him well in his various volunteer activities in support of his local community. Jim was employed as Safety Officer at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville, FL for many years until his retirement.
Funeral arrangements were provided by Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, Orange Park, FL. James will be interred in the Murphy Family plot in Saint Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Liberty, New York. Memorial contributions may be made to the National American Heart Association in Jim’s name.
