After college training she went to work as a Computer Operator for the A. B. Dick Company. Her Mother and Cousin worked for Televiso Electronics in Wheeling, Illinois where they met her future husband Bob Holkup, who was the Quality Control Supervisor. Bob and Sharon's first date was at the bowling Alley where Televiso sponsored a Friday evening bowling league. Actuality it was more of a social drinking party than a bowling league. Sharon's Dad passed away in 1964 and short there after Sharon and Rob got engaged. They married on June 18th and 19th, 1965 in St. Mary’s Church in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. In 1966, their son John Walter was born who was named after his 2 grandfathers. A daughter, Sandra Lee named for Sharon's best friends as born in 1970. In 1973 the family bought a home in Crystal Lake, Illinois which is about 50 miles NW of Chicago. This was followed by Sharon's Mom buying a home in a retirement community in Crystal Lake, Also at this time Sharon and her Morn went to work for the local grade school which was across the street from the Holkup Home with Sharon doing the cooking and Eunice doing the baking,
From the Chicago land area, the family including Sharon's mom moved to Kingsport, Tennessee and then to Raleigh, North Carolina where both John and Sandra graduated from high school. Both went on to college with John obtaining several skilled trade certificates and Sandra obtaining an Associate in Business. From Raleigh, the family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where Sandra married Robert Lloyd. John found his calling in apartment Complex maintenance. The family was then transferred to Florida with Sandra staying in New Mexico with her husband. In 1995, the Sharon, her mom and Bob moved to Connecticut with John staying in Florida.
While visiting friends in Florida in the late 90's Sharon and Bob made the decision to retire in Florida. Since Sharon's Mom was having health issues, the decision was further refined to move to the Lakeland area. In 2000, Sharon and her Mom spent 6 weeks looking at Central Florida communities finally selecting LJL. Sharon then selected our current home, purchased it, had it installed with the garage and screen room plus had it furnished. Bob got to select the lot. In 2004 Sharon's Mom passed away at age 93. Then in 2008 John passed away due to COPD.
Since then many of you have gotten to know Sharon and love her for her sense of humor, cooking abilities and her creative craft talents as witnessed by her doll and wood burning creations. She never cooked or baked a small amount of anything like when she baked 15 large cakes for the Chinese New Year's Party that she hosted in the Clubhouse
