Well Buddy I waited this year because didn't know what to say but you know I can't keep crying all day everyday because its killing me and Erika and Jamie need me here.. I can't believe its been three years already. Tell Clay he needs to visit like you and Michael do and give Grand Ma a Great big hug for me. I know that their are 17 more days until your birthday. But I thought I'd write to you a little bit early while I was sitting here at my desk thinking about you. 
My sweetest and dear Kyle David Kufner, what shall I ever do.... their isn't a minute in the day where you don't cross my mind or my heart. The pain is sometimes unbearable... I get weak to my knees when a certain country song plays on the radio but then I have to pick myself back up and think you wouldn't want me to be upset, you never could stand the thought of a single tear falling on my cheek, you never liked seeing me in pain.... but it's hard to know every day I wake up I won't ever hear your voice again. It's hard to sit here and know I can't plan your 21st birthday like I always promised I would since the night I threw your 18th. I have to keep telling myself your happy and you are where you always longed to be.... I love you and you will always and forever be my first love. I haven't talked to you since high school but I remember you were so cool. You made me laugh all the time in Mrs. White's class. I remember you showing me you didn't have a belly button and how shocked I was. I remember you being annoyed by me because I would always make you show me your belly. I hope you're resting well with your brothers and I pray your family can be calm soon. It was great to have gotten to know you.

I sorted through pictures remembering our life together. I cry because of all of the things we will never get to do together again. I'm lost without you. You promised you would never do this to us because of the pain that we suffered after Clays death. Your pain must have been too great to bear my son and you chose to leave us. I must rely on my faith and my belief that you are happy now and with your brothers. No more pain, no more suffering. As we all remember you at your memorial tonight, know and feel the love that so many have for you. Watch over us all and keep us strong with your presence of spirit and love. Mommy needs that. Kyle, we only met a couple of times but you shared your  sorrow, your tears, your joy, your dreams with me and I felt like I'd known you for a long time. I'll never forget the time you made me laugh in the middle of my own grief and how it gave me the jolt of strength that I needed. And that conversation about riding dirt bikes was great. Since you've been in Heaven, I've seen you countless times and for a split second thought "There's Kyle," but then I blink and realize it isn't you on the sidewalk or crossing the street or coming out of the store. I don't have an answer to any of this and the only thing I know to do is hang onto Gods promise of peace that surpasses all understanding. May you rest in the shadow of His wings.
