Deborah Preston Moore, mother of five and friend of many around the world, passed unexpectedly in her home-garden on August 9th, 2017 from a heart attack. She was quickly found by her company and her beloved pups.
Deborah’s rich and fruitful life began on March 11th, 1950 from her parents Fred and Bonnie Preston in Youngstown, Ohio with her older brother David. After making a name for herself with her incredible talent as a baton twirling majorette both in high school and fire baton in college she graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a Bachelor’s degree in Botany. While attending college, Debbie Sue fell in love and married her college sweetheart Paul Andrew Moore, Jr. (1971) Together, they did numerous tours stateside and abroad with the US Navy and brought five children into the world. Deborah taught high school biology in Guam (1974) and Naples, Italy (1980) as well as kindergarten in Hawaii (1985). In Gaeta, Italy, Deborah found the beginning of her lifetime achievement in leading tours of cultural immersion and Italian language in and around Europe. After moving to Patuxent River, Maryland (1990), Deborah began her time working with the Family Service Center and continued this career as Transition Assistance Program Manager in Naples, Italy (1994). Debbie found a new love for German culture as she assisted German nationals in speaking English for business (Stuttgart, 2000). After accompanying her husband through retirement from the Navy they returned to their beloved Pozzuoli where her life-long partner fell from a Brain Aneurysm (2006). Deb immediately became his primary caregiver and advocate for his seven-year recovery, beginning in Coreggio, Italy and ending at their home in DeBary, FL where they spent his final days together (January, 2013).
Deborah will be remembered as a woman of adventure, keen intellect, creativity, mischievous humor, lover of babies and children, Rottweiler-enthusiast, spirituality, devotion, generosity, and a deep believer in others’ abilities to succeed and do well in life. Though she encountered numerous struggles, the time proceeding her death was saturated with gratitude and love for and from her dearest friends and family.
Debbie’s memory will continue through her seven grandchildren, Zoe, Paulie, Andrew, Gabriel, John, Sophia and Simon. Deborah is survived by her four children, Christopher (Mt. Dora, FL), Tamara (Wadena, MN), Veronica (Jacksonville, FL), and David (Norfolk, VA), as well as her brother David Preston (Fort Lauderdale, FL).
Eternal rest grant unto her, oh Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon her.
