Nellie was born March 18, 1938, in Shelby, Ohio, and was a graduate of Shelby Senior High School, Class of 1955. She was employed by Richland Bank until she resigned to become full-time homemaker. In 1987, Nellie went back to school, honing her skills for typing and various office duties. She loved her job at Richland County Clerk of Courts-Title Division where she worked for 13 years.
Sitting on her back porch—her favorite place at home—she enjoyed reading and relaxing. Nellie also enjoyed bowling and water skiing. She especially loved to support her husband, Doc, in his role as a community leader. There were some days she wouldn’t see him until late at night due to someone needing his help, but Nellie never once complained. She would tell people, “I love Doc; therefore I love what he does”. She was a member of Little Washington Congregational Church.
Nellie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Rush “Doc” F. Stumbo whom she married on December 5, 1964; son, Steven F. Stumbo; great-nieces, Diann (Everette) Hannah and Teresa (Larry) Miranda; many great-great nieces and nephews; her best friends who were more like a son and daughter, Fred and Ginger Antrican; and honorary granddaughter, Jodi (Nick) McGlone.
She was preceded in death by her niece, Helen Jo Varney; nephew, James Henry Varney; great-niece, Lisa Renee Varney; and a young man she thought of as a grandson, Jason Antrican.
