He loved riding his Harley, making the ride to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in 2023. He enjoyed camping and boating, often spending time with his wife and dogs at their camper at Portage River Marina. Chris was an ironworker at Adena for 8 years where his co-workers referred to him as “Grumpy Cat”. Despite the nickname, he was willing to mentor and guide new hires as long as they were willing to listen.
He was a mechanic to the depths of his soul. He owned a ’65 Ford Mustang, which his dad bought for him when he was just 14 years old. Year after year, he poured his heart and soul into that car. Chris loved watching scary movies but they never met his expectations. Chris was the rock of his family. People leaned on him for support and advice and he was honest with everyone. You could find him with a Mountain Dew in hand and a Marlboro in his mouth. True to his generous nature, Chris would do anything to help anyone. His ability to relate to people—often talking for hours if he was comfortable with you—made him even more beloved.
Chris is survived by his wife, Chevy Troxell Bond; mother, Brenda Fugett Bond-Ewers; sister, Sequoia Bond; maternal grandfather, Jack Fugett; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary D. Bond; paternal grandparents, Dalton and Bonnie Bond; and maternal grandmother, Mae Fugett.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Mansfield Playhouse, 95 East 3rd Street, Mansfield. Contributions in memory of Chris may be made to the Richland County Dog Shelter, Mansfield Playhouse or a charity of the donor’s choice. Wappner Funeral Directors-Ontario is honored to serve the family.
