Born March 30, 1936, in Bucyrus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Carol Ellen (Schieber) and Robert Kurtz Sherer and was raised on the family farm. He graduated from Whetstone School and attended Heidelberg College. Charles was a veteran serving with the US Navy for four years. He was an insurance agent for many years. He was also a firefighter for over 40 years, most of those years spent with the Springfield Township Fire Department. He was a member of Ontario United Methodist Church for over 50 years. In 1960, he married Beth Ann Johnston and they shared a wonderful life together. Charles will be remembered as an amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and mentor.
He is survived by a daughter, Michelle R. (Jamie) Boudinot; son, Curtis A. (Lizette) Sherer; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Sherer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beth Sherer.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Wappner Funeral Directors-Ontario, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Christine Bell officiating. He will be laid to rest in the family cemetery, Sherer Cemetery, in Bucyrus, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Ontario United Methodist Church or Springfield Township Fire Department.
