Mary Eileen Domas

Eileen Domas died from complications of Alzheimer’s on October 2, 2024 at the age of 97.

She was born December 6, 1926 in Epworth, Iowa to Marie and Leo Oberfoell.

Eileen grew up in Epworth, Iowa before entering nurses training in Dubuque, Iowa near the end of World War II. She worked as a nurse both at Mercy Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan and at the Veterans Hospital in Chicago. During this time she enjoyed outdoor activities with her good friends Nora, Marge and Irene who she remembered fondly for the rest of her life.

Eileen met William Domas at a Catholic youth group in Chicago. They were married in Georgia and moved briefly to the army base in Fort Benning, Georgia and started a family. They ultimately settled in Montclair, CA in 1960 where they renovated an old Victorian house and raised 8 children.

After her youngest child was born, Eileen went back to work at Pacific State (now called Lanterman Development Center) in Pomona, CA and later worked as a weekend charge nurse at Landmark Medical Center in Pomona, CA.

Eileen enjoyed gardening, quilting, and painting throughout her life. She taught a ceramics class at the Montclair Community Center for many years.

Eileen enjoyed spending time with her extended family, especially the young children, who have wonderful stories to tell about the fun Eileen created in their life.

Eileen was a loyal parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church since 1960.

She is survived by two Sisters Verna and Helen McDermott, seven children, Kathryn Anne Copeland, Theresa Marie Griggs, Peter William Domas, Shirley Domas Steele, Dorothy Jo Olsen, Mark Charles Domas, and Nichole Alexandria Olson; four son in laws, William Copeland, William [Butch] L Griggs Jr, Donald E Steele, and Pete C Olson; six grandchildren, Colleen Sullin, Lisa Griggs, Angela Copeland, Tracy Warren, Karl Olsen, Katrina Olsen; and Five great-grandchildren, Julio Letona IV, Michael Sullin, Rylan Sullin, Elijah Warren and Mason Warren. She was preceded in death by her husband William J Domas, and by two daughters, Delores Domas and Rita Clare Domas. Arrangements are with Draper Mortuary in Ontario, CA.
