George was born on November 21, 1940 in Wyatt, MO to Edith and William Newberry. He grew up in Taylorville, IL and was raised by his mother, Edith, and stepfather, Gus Murphy, after losing his dad at age four. George grew up with his two sisters, Mary and Jean, a stepbrother, Edward, and younger brother, Tommy.
George graduated from Taylorville High School in 1958. He married and had two daughters, Kathleen and Victoria. After moving to California in 1968, George met his lifelong partner, Randy Del Turco, with whom he remained until his passing.
Over George’s lifetime he accomplished many things. He owned a barber shop in Illinois, 3 tuxedo rental stores in California, authored and published 3 books, poetry, and a screenplay. He could play the piano without reading a note.
George loved to entertain and have his home full of family and friends. He became involved in Hollywood organizations, his community in Ontario, CA, and generously opened his home to host weddings, birthdays, holidays, and fundraising events.
He was a lover of animals, antiques, the theater, arts and entertainment.
He is survived by his partner, Randy Del Turco, his daughters, Kathleen Unsell and Vicki Buckner, two grandsons, two granddaughters, 5 great-grandsons, his two sisters, Mary Stickel, and Jean Ramsey, and his step brother, Edward Murphy. He was preceded in death by his mother Edith Murphy, stepfather Gus Murphy, and brother, Thomas Murphy.
