On October 20, 2022, the MHS family lost a long-time employee/family member, Dorothy “Irene” Ochoa.  For many years, Mrs. Ochoa was known as “Mama Ochoa”, especially to the special education family.  Irene began working for Montclair HS in 1980 in the work ability program.  She diligently helped to train students for the school-to-work program supervised in those days by Hal Edmon. She would visit students in their work environments and offer loving momma advice and direction. On campus, she was easily recognized by staff and students as the face of kindness and supportiveness. Irene’s grandchildren (our own Ms. Cindy Ochoa’s children)  attended MHS as well.  As the grandchildren played football, Irene became the football team momma.  She could be seen at every game, cheering the players on. She enjoyed feeding the football team also.  Every home varsity game, you could find Irene in the cafeteria cooking, serving, and cleaning up after the boys.  She provided not only ‘fan’ support, but also lovingly prepared, nutritious pre-game meals.
 
Irene easily made friends at MHS. Many are still here today.  She always had a kind word, a quick smile, and a new piece of jewelry to show you.  (She was adored by her husband, too.) When Irene retired in 2011, she continued to visit MHS often to check on “her family” of Cavaliers. Even in retirement, she continued to have a twinkle in her eye and love in her heart for the Cavaliers.
