Jack Manning Clark, Sr. passed away September 16, 2014 at the age of 86. Jack served his Lord as a minister for many churches in the Oneonta area and was fondly referred to as “Pastor Jack” by his parishioners. During his lifetime, Jack also served as pastor and interim pastor for many different churches in the eastern US and in Guam. He was a Professor of Education at SUNY Oneonta for 16 years and a co-developer of the reading education department there. He held consultant positions for Wycliff Bible Translators and the Migrant Tutorial Program. He was a US Army veteran, stationed in Korea during the final months of World War II.
Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie Youmans Clark of Oneonta, his daughters Carolyn Durgin and husband, James of Denver and Karen Elliott and husband, Jim of Chicago and his son Kevin Clark and wife, Kimala of Oneonta. Jack was predeceased by his son Jack, Jr. in 1971. Jack was dearly loved by his grandchildren Luke and Eric Durgin, Jessica Wagel, Joshua Elliott, Jeanne Clark and Kathryn Christman.
Jack is the son of the late Florence Beatrice Manning and Clarence Easton Clark and brother to Jane Harris, Oneonta, Donald Clark, Duneden, FL, and the late Grace Lindsey. He was “Uncle Jack” to 13 nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.
Jack married Marjorie, his high school sweetheart in 1948. He graduated from Moody Bible Institute (1952) and Baptist Bible Seminary (1958). He received Masters Degree from SUNY Oneonta (1961) and his Doctorate of Education from the University of Buffalo (1971). Jack was ordained while pastoring his first church in West Pawlet, VT (1952).
Calling hours will be held at Bookout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta on Friday, Sept. 19 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 11 AM, Main Street Baptist Church, Oneonta.
