He was born on June 7, 1940 in Manhattan, the son of William and Kathleen (Kennedy) McKinley. He married Patricia A. Mellini on June 16, 1963.
Edward was employed for many years in the banking industry, working for several agencies in Manhattan and the New York City area.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and was highly involved in community work. He was a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee, administrative council member, and finance chair for many years. He was a member of the Franklin NY Rotary, serving as president for many years, was a Rotary Exchange Host, and gained the honor of being named a Paul Harris Fellow. In his youth, he enjoyed membership in the Boy Scouts of America.
Edward also enjoyed spending summers at the Jersey Shore with his family, attending local Unatego sporting events, and was an avid dog lover.
He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Patricia A. McKinley, Otego, NY; his children, Lori (Christopher) Bomba, Unadilla, NY, Karen (Michael) Alvin, Otego, NY, Edward McKinley II, Otego, NY, Victoria (Mark) Kimball, Piney Flats, TN; and Maureen (Thomas) Artale, Oneonta, NY; grandchildren, Christopher (Emily) Bomba II, Meghan (Ryan) Quinn, Mallorie Bomba, Abbigail Bomba, Michael Alvin, Angela (Jeremy) Sawyer, Jessica Alvin, Caitlin (Geoff) Reck, Padriac Alvin, Liam Alvin, Payton McKinley, Alexa Kimball, Jacob Kimball, Sean Kimball, Abigael Artale, and Declan Artale; great grandchildren, Christopher Bomba III, Francesca Bomba, Kendall Quinn, Gabriel Alvin, Anna Alvin, Cliona Day, Carissa Day, Alec Day, Jordan Sawyer, Madelynn Sawyer, Gavin Sawyer, Grayson Sawyer, and Gillian Reck; great-great grandchild, Brooks Stewart; and his sisters in-law Louise McKinley, Joan Guariglia, and Dolores Mitchell as well as numerous loved nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, William & Kathleen McKinley; his in-laws, Mario & Marian Mellini; his brother William J. McKinley; his sister, Elizabeth Schalk and her husband Harry Schalk; his brother, David McKinley; his brothers in-law, John Guariglia & Frank Mitchell; and his grandson, Edward A. McKinley III.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 30, 2024. The receiving of friends will begin at 10:00am at SUNY Oneonta, Morris Conference Center, Oneonta, NY 13820.
In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made in his memory to the Otego Volunteer Fire Department, the Susquehanna SPCA, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
