She was born August 5, 1928 in Colchester, CT the daughter of the late William and Emma (Pahowdy) Cox.
Following graduation, Dorothy attended and graduated from Holy Cross Business College in New York City.
On August 17, 1957, Dorothy married Donald F. Polley in Mineola, NY. Donald predeceased her on June 11, 2009.
For many years she was a Steno Clerk for the D&H Railroad until her retirement.
Dorothy was the neighborhood “mom” she was always caring for others and her community. She volunteered her time to the Oneonta PTA, March of Dimes, Oneonta Little League, Save the Wilber Mansion and the League of Women Voters. She was actively involved in local politics working for the Democratic Party and for many years she was a poll sitter. She was also a school aide at Center Street School.
She enjoyed reading, old movies, mysteries and tending to her flower gardens. But most of all Dorothy loved her family. She loved attending her children and grandchildren’s events.
She is a member of St. Mary’s Church.
Dorothy is survived by her five children, Michael Polley, Fairburn, GA, David Polley, Binghamton, Mark Polley, Oneonta, Philip Polley, Esperence and Monica Breed, Oneonta; five grandchildren, Zach and Dylan Breed, Joseph and John Polley and Lydia Polley; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Raymond, James, William and Catherine Cox.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
A Funeral mass at St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut Street, Oneonta will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Rev. David Mickiewicz officiating.
Burial will be in the spring in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
