Wayne was the oldest of three children born to Darlene and Allen. Wayne had his parents alone for four years before his brother Jay came along and then 3 years later the baby sister Dede. Wayne was the good child and very rarely caused his parents any trouble. He attended Holy Cross Catholic Elementary, Gross High School and UNO.
Even from a young age, Wayne loved music and the theater. He was active in the theater program and choir in Elementary and High School. Recently his nephew found a picture of Wayne where he was playing the role of a Nun. His love for the theater and music extended throughout his life. As an adult, he became a Cantor at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Shortly after marrying, he helped with the music program for the Sunday school at St. Timothy Lutheran Church.
He was always willing to offer his services at many family functions. He sang at Tracy and Jay’s wedding. He played piano at Becky Fendrick’s graduation party.
He graduated from UNO with a degree in Musical education. He worked at various parochial schools as a music teacher. He produced many plays during his time as a teacher with his wife by his side.
The interesting thing about Wayne and Lori’s relationship. They met through their younger siblings. Jay and Tracy were engaged and planning their wedding when Lori and Wayne met. Wayne and Lori were married on December 9, 2000. They were never blessed with children of their own, but blessed many times over with many nephews and nieces. He was the Godfather to Jay Jr, Kirkland, Kasandra and Bradley.
Wayne enriched the lives of all the children that he came into contact with. He helped Kasandra with her homework while she struggled with her learning disability. He provided support to his niece when she was a teenager who sought refuge with her Aunt and Uncle when she was not getting along with her parents. His nephew Colyn was his newspaper and movie buddy. I believe all of his nephews at one point were his newspaper delivery helper.
Speaking of the Omaha World Hearald. Wayne started delivering papers when he was the ripe old age of 11 until 1 month ago. He had many loyal customers that thought very highly of him and Lori.
Wayne was a gentle, loving man. He was the always there with a hug for those in need. He will be missed by family and friends.
