Salvatore “Sam” F. Campisi passed away peacefully of natural causes the morning of May 12, 2016, at the Sunrise Senior Living in Overland Park KS. Sam had been comforted by numerous visits from his family and friends before his death. He was 83 years old.
Sam was born on March 30, 1933 in Omaha. He was one of 10 children born to Emanuel and Sarah Campisi. In 1957, he married Nancy Rose Calabro and while still living in Omaha, they had 2 children, Lorinda “Lori” Ann, and Michael Christopher. Sam and his wife Nancy later moved to West Des Moines IA, where they raised their 2 children.
Sam and Nancy were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Des Moines. Sam served in the Army and was a Korean War Veteran. He then worked in manufacturing for most of his life, until retiring from EMCO Specialties in Des Moines in 1996 where he was Vice President of Manufacturing and Engineering. Most of his retirement years were spent living in Des Moines, before moving to Overland Park KS in December of 2015.
Sam was preceded in death by his father and mother; his wife of 33 years, Nancy; his brother, Frank; and sisters, Annie, Fannie, Carmela, Josephine, Tina and Antionette.
Sam is survived by his daughter, Lorinda “Lori” Ann Burghart and her husband Bill of Olathe KS; his son, Michael “Mike” Christopher Campisi and his wife Jodi of Altoona IA; 2 brothers, Joseph Campisi and Anthony Campisi, both of Omaha; grandsons, Aaron Campisi, Blake Campisi, Devin Campisi, and Carson Campisi, and Cody Hoover, all who live in the Des Moines area; granddaughter, Alexandria “Lexi” Burghart of Olathe KS; one great granddaughter, Viviana Campisi of Waukee IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a VIEWING the evening of Monday, May 16, 5-8pm, with a VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm at Crosby Colonial Chapel. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held on Tuesday, May 17, at 10am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church,7430 Haskell St., Omaha, with GRAVESIDE SERVICES to follow at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Omaha. The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers; donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
“Thank you” to all of those who were able to visit with him during his final days. A special “Thanks” to Steve and all the administration and staff at Sunrise of Overland Park who cared for and watched over him during his final days.
