Robert James Stover Jr.

Robert James (Bob) Stover was a man of many talents and accomplishments. Some accomplishments were earned over a lifetime of hard work and effort. Other titles self-bestowed, like title of ”Best-Looking Father in Law”, but still just as deserved.

Bob came into the world on February 19, 1957 and has been making noise ever since. He spent his early years in Omaha and left for the bright lights of Norfolk when he was 9. In high school, he would dominate the football scene with the Norfolk Catholic Knights. After showing everyone in that region how good he was at sports, he left for an illustrious 3 year career in football and track at Papillion High School, not to be confused with Papillion-La Vista High school, he was not fond of that changed. He still holds multiple track records at Papillion. Bob was a 4-sport athlete for a time but ended his NBA aspirations after a dispute with the coach over the length of his hair. Bob was able to drive home the point about his hair by joining an intermural basketball team and helping beat said coach’s team, flowing mane, and all. At the time, the only thing more important to Bob than sports was how ridiculously good looking he was, in his mind and on paper.

Bob met the love of his life, Meredy, while they worked at Younkers together. He worked loss prevention, but we guess that more items went missing after he noticed Meredy and was less focused on the job. Bob out punted his coverage, as he was aware, when he married Meredy on June 21st, 1980. They recently celebrated 40 years of wedded bliss in June. Their lives were made complete when they added two boys to their family, Bobby (the troublemaker) in 1982 and Brett (the serial pouter) in 1986. Their youth was spent with their Pops watching, supporting, and side-line coaching the boys in their sports. Bob was incredibly proud when both of his boys joined the US Marine Corps and to this day was trying to get them to get their stuff out of the basement.

Bob split his time as a husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend as a Police Officer, a state handball champion, and a state BBQ champion, which you would understand if you ever sampled his wares. He and Meredy loved to visit friends and take their motorcycle up to Sturgis. Recently, they found a new community of friends at Cottonwood Marina, spending time at their camper and on their boat, that he was not sure he bought originally. Bob loved to stand out on his dock and yell at those who would go too fast in the no wake zone, he was really leaning into the grumpy get off my lawn attitude.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. & Pansy Stover. Survived by Wife of 40 years Meredy. Sons: Robert III "Bobby" Stover, Brett (Laura) Stover. Brothers: Mike (Vicki) Stover, Ida Grove, IA., David Stover, Bellevue, NE., James Stover, Omaha, NE. Sister: Sue (Norman) VonSeggern, Papillion, NE. Parents in Law: Phil & Marilyn Katt, Fremont, NE. Sisters-In-Law, Janice (Katt) Blankinship, Fremont, and Patsy (Mike) Burdine, Huston, Tx. Nieces, Nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Bob had a wonderful collection of terrible ties and we invite you to “Tie one with Bob” and wear your terrible ties in the coming days. Please feel free to wear them to the service, but don’t worry if you can’t find one, we will have plenty of his for you to wear and take with you.

Memorial Mass Saturday October 10 at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, Omaha at 10:00 am. Private Family Burial Evergreen Cemetery.
