Richard John Bauer, "Dick", 84, of Omaha, NE entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home in Omaha, NE. He was born August 29, 1933 in Omaha, NE to John and Eva (Hook) Bauer. Dick graduated from Omaha Central High School and the University of Nebraska Omaha with a degree in business. He served in the US Air Force in Hokido Japan as an air traffic controller. On November 9, 1957 he was united in marriage to Ginny Wiemer.
Dick worked at Mutual of Omaha for 30 years. His true passion in life was as a drummer in the band. He started drumming when he was 14 years old and played in several bands and orchestras large and small for nearly 70 years including Bobby Lane, Union Pacific , Skippy Anderson, Norrie Egger, Mort Wells, Lambert Bartekand the Omaha Symphony among others. He especially enjoyed being a part of big bands and road trips. He was a Friday night regular playing at the Touch of Class.
Dick volunteered at the Omaha Humane Society for several years. He was a very social and friendly guy who liked spending time with family and friends.
Dick is survived by his wife, Ginny, of 60 years, children Laura (Doug) Bell of Ashland, NE John (Angela) Bauer of Charlotte, NC and Mark (Nicole) Bauer of Bedford, TX; grandchildren Dana (Cody) Raml and Ryan Bell; Camille Bauer, Chris Bauer and Eva Bauer; Jameson Bauer and Jack Bauer; sister Sharon Wilson; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
