Phebe Mae Smith

March 29, 1919 - September 27, 2022

Phebe. Mae Smith was born March 29, 1919 to Niels Sorensen and Phebe (Albertson) Sorensen in Egan South Dakota. Her family moved to Omaha, NE in her early years. She has lived in Omaha, Bellevue, and her last residence was in Papillion, NE. Her first husband (Anton Vidlak) died in 1955, She remarried in 1978 to Norvin Smith who died in 2002. Having to leave high school because of the depression, she later returned to night school and graduated from Omaha Technical High School in 1963. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1986. She was 103 years old when she died on September 27, 2022.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers - Niels Sorensen and Jack Sorensen, sisters - Evelyn Wieger and Vivian Benson, son - Robert Vidlak, and daughter-in-law - JoAnn Vidlak.

She is survived by sister-in-law - Mary Sorensen of Pilger, NE; children - Ron Vidlak of Henderson, NV, Diana Vidlak of Philadelphia, PA, Jerry (wife - Muriel) Vidlak of Lincoln, NE; granddaughters - Wendy Vidlak (husband - Jess Holle) of Vadnais Heights, MN, Nancy Vidlak of Lincoln, NE, Lori Thompson of Henderson, NV; great-grandchildren - Nathan Holle, Sammie Jo Thompson, Hunter Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She died at Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, NE on September 27, 2022.

Life-long Lutheran, she had been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bellevue, NE since 1977.

Per her request a private graveside service was held on September 30, 2022.
