Kenneth Michael Kass was born on October 7, 1941, to Michael and Hilda (Jarding) Kass at St. Joseph Hospital in Mitchell, South Dakota. He graduated from Salem St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1959. He attended the University of South Dakota and later enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed in Alaska and a small post in Missouri Valley, Iowa. He returned to his hometown of Salem, South Dakota, where he met the love of his life, Gloria Sabers. They married at Salem St. Mary’s Catholic Church on January 2, 1971. Shortly thereafter they moved to their forever home in Omaha, Nebraska. Ken worked as a trucking dispatcher for PIE and ABF trucking firms. Ken was a loving and caring husband. He missed his wife very much after she passed away in 1999. Ken retired in 2001. Ken went on to join his precious wife Gloria on July 5, 2024, surrounded by family, after a long battle with kidney disease.
Ken was a long-time member of St. John Vianney Church, where he ushered and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree. He was an officer for the Retired Teamsters. He loved to travel, cherishing his trip to the Holy Land, and was a member of numerous clubs. He enjoyed collecting Precious Moments with his wife Gloria. He loved to watch and talk about sports! Ken was a man of strong faith; he will be deeply missed and will remain forever in our hearts.
Ken is survived by his sister-in-law, Connie Kass; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria; parents and in-laws; siblings, Karen Kass, Marilyn (Leon) Feterl, Richard Kass, and Jeanette (Carl) Koch; and nephews, David (Barb) Feterl and Dan Feterl.
A visitation for Kenneth will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center St, Omaha, Nebraska 68106. A vigil service will occur Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 7:00 PM, 5701 Center St, Omaha, Nebraska 68106. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 5815 Oak Hills Drive, Omaha, Nebraska 68137.
Serving as pallbearers are Bjorn Johnson, Kaleb Johnson, Doug Feterl, Tim Koch, Mason Koch, Jamie Stinson and all nieces and nephews of Ken Kass.
