John was born in Omaha, Nebraska on March 9, 1965 to Orthodox Christians George R. Nimmer and Polly (Kalliman) Nimmer. John was always a bright child who enjoyed studying and learning. After John graduated in 1983 from Westside High School, he attended UNO on a full ride scholarship and was in the Honors program, majoring in Criminal Justice and minoring in Political Science. John then attended Creighton Law School, graduating in 1993, and became a lawyer. John loved the law, and practiced for 30 years, but most importantly, John loved helping and advocating for others. John recently served the community by being a substitute teacher for Papillion La Vista community schools and Bellevue public schools. He enjoyed teaching younger generations.
John is preceded in death by his father, George Nimmer, who passed away in 2017. John is survived by his mother, Polly Nimmer, his loving wife, Tammy Nimmer, his devoted daughter, Rachel Nimmer, his sisters, Stephanie Nimmer and Jennifer (Tony) Mancuso, his step-mother, Terry Nimmer, along with several nieces, nephews, many Godchildren, step children, grandchildren, and friends.
John has always been an active member of the Orthodox Christian faith. John is a member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church. John studied Holy Scriptures, Orthodox Christian theology, Church history, and Eastern and Western Canon (Church) law. John was named after St. John Chrysostom, who served as Archbishop of Constantinople, and was well known for his preaching and public speaking, qualities that John exhibited as well.
John's interests included health, faith, family, literature, and history. John will always be remembered for his love for his family and friends, his love of his faith, and his love for practicing law. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, and father, and his memory will be eternal.
Services will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church at 5050 Harrison St. in Omaha, Nebraska at 10:00 am with Graveside Services to follow at Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park, 5701 Center St. Omaha, Nebraska. Memorials to his family and to St. Nicholas would be greatly appreciated.
