Gary was born on January 24, 1952 to Frank Sr. and Lucille Wasinger in Omaha. He was the third oldest of five kids. Gary attended Cathedral high school and graduated in 1970. It is there where he met the love of his life, Barb. They went on to marry in 1972 and have been each other’s support system for 50 years.
Gary and Barb would go on to have 5 children: Renee, Brandi, Bridgette, Michael, and Katy. Gary was a wonderful and amazing husband and father. He always taught his kids to be strong, independent, and respectful to others. He was always there to support not only their successes but also the difficult times in life.
Gary inspired and shared with his children a strong work ethic. He worked at Old Home Bakery for 25 years. Gary made many friends throughout his time there. He went on to support those friends and co-workers throughout his time there as a Union Rep as well.
After retirement, Gary went on many adventures with his family. His favorite places to visit were any place with a beach. He loved to spend time in the sun, taking his grandkids to the pool or the museums. He enjoyed writing, and shared his opinions even with the public through the Omaha World Herald.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr and Lucille Wasinger; and brother, Frank Wasinger Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Barb (Gue) Wasinger; his children, Renee (Rich) Micek, Brandi (Paul Gaylord) Wasinger, Bridgette Wasinger, Michael (Stacie) Wasinger, and Katy (Jorge Martinez) Wasinger; his grandchildren, Alex, Zach, Paul Jr, Kaylee, Zoey, Macie, Bella, Asher, Maddy, Ivan, and Ryan; his great-grandchild, Lelan; his sisters, Nina Stickels, Diane (Jim) Walker, and Marijo (Fred) Malesa; his sister-in-law, Barb Wasinger; and many other friends and family.
