Frank Mancuso was born on October 9th, 1948, to Frank and Sally Mancuso. He spent his first 12 years living in Atkinson, NE. He shared many great memories in Atkinson with his siblings, Marty, Mary, John, and Jim. In 1963, Frank and family moved to Omaha, and Frank attended Creighton Prep High School. Frank, a baseball enthusiast, competed for Prep thru his senior year. After graduating from Prep in 1966, he went on to attend Creighton University. Frank also played baseball for the Creighton Bluejays during his years there. Frank graduated from CU in 1970 and went on to attended Creighton Dental School, graduating in 1974. He began his dental career with his dad, Frank, after graduation. From there, he worked incredibly hard to make their dental a success. Frank’s patients would agree he was a success.
He met the love of his life Karen McMahon in 1971 & married July 28, 1972. Frank and Karen went on to have three children, Angie, Becky, and Joe.
Frank was a family man, he truly put his family first in all he did. Everything was about his children. Coaching them in sports, family vacations, backyard wiffleball games to name a few. Being at home with his family, was truly his favorite place to be. Frank’s constant was always being there for his kids as they were the most important thing UNTIL, 11 grandchildren changed his life forever. He adored each & everyone of them beyond words. You could frequently find Grandpa Frank sitting with his master calendar planning how to attend all grandkid’s school, theater, and sporting events. He quickly became known for his wit, kindness, sport smarts, and infectious smile around all the fields, courts, and the stage, making some good friends along the way. Nothing topped Frank’s excitement of watching his grandkid’s do their thing, other than when the entire family gathered together for the many parties, holidays, Okoboji vacations, and cookouts. Grandpa was definitely the instigator in the late nights, full of jokes, reminiscing, and laughter. Grandpa and Grandma never turned down an invite to gather with their grandkids.
Frank found anyway to compete. From pitch to ping pong, he was going to put up his best fight, along with some heckling to ensure the win. He definitely instilled this competitiveness in all his kids and grandkids. Frank was also an avid golfer & played often, especially with his brother John. Last year they both played 72 holes of golf in one day. However, Frank insisted they play one more hole to match his age, so they played one more! Wow what a feat! Although, the year before they conquered 81 holes in one day!! Golf was a sport he was able to enjoy with his kids, nieces and nephews, son in-law, friends, and grandkids. Nearly all of these matches involved shenanigans, side competitions, and of course teasing.
He will be dearly missed by his children, grandchildren, siblings, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends. Frank had an absolute true gift of making all his people feel like his “favorite”. Frank was a very active person, rarely sitting still until happy hour and jeopardy with Karen. Unfortunately his cancer diagnosis changed this drastically, but even though the cancer was winning he fought to the very end. Frank indeed fought fiercely to the very end, he fought with grace, respect, and compassion even in the most difficult times. Frank will live on in all his loved ones as he showed us how to live life and do things the right way until the very end.
The family has asked those attending to dress up in Creighton University apparel or in white & blue for both services.
