Barbara Jean Chamberlin, who just turned 96, passed away on June 28, 2024. She was born on June 14,1928 in Tekamah, NE to Hershel and Eva Lawson. She was the last one of 5 sisters and 3 brothers. Barbara eloped against her father’s wishes and married the love of her life, Edward Chamberlin, in 1947 who preceded her in death in 2001.
Barb and Ed owned for over 50+ years a 24/7 business named Chamberlin Plumbing. They loved to travel. Barb was the navigator. She could navigate anywhere with her trusty maps. They traveled in Mexico and the US. While traveling, they enjoyed fishing, snorkeling, and meeting many interesting people. Barb did many needlepoints and refinished furniture projects. Before Ed's passing, he set Barb up with a little place in Apache Junction where she continued to winter after Ed passing. Barb and Ed loved family and literally had an open-door policy for family and friends.
After Ed’s passing, Barb and her good friend John DiBiase continued to travel, gamble, play pool like sharks and winter in Apache Junction, AZ. Barbara, also known as BJ or BarbaraJean, had many additional family members that she cherished with John. John preceded her in death in 2020.
Survived by 2 daughters, Lynette (Thomas) Strauss, and Cindy Jochims; 3 grandchildren, Thomas W. Strauss, Jennifer (Jake), and Jayme (West) Loomis; 8 great-grandchildren; and many loved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A graveside service for Barbara will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park, 5701 Center St, Omaha, Nebraska 68106. Celebration of Life to follow at the residence of Lyn Strauss.
