Allan James Twedt passed away peacefully on January 23, 2023. He was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Hazel (Edwards) Twedt and Lars RingsTwedt. As an amateur photographer he captured joyful portraits of family and friends, as well as beautiful landscape and abandoned building photos from his many drives across the country. He enjoyed music ranging from Abba to Mozart.
He never met an animal he did not love. He was an avid reader and a writer with a distinct voice. His expressive accents when reading aloud engendered a love of reading in his children, who he loved immensely.
Allan's professional life was spent in retail, ranging from working for Hinky Dinky supermarkets across Nebraska, to owning a grocery store in West Point, to serving as a national business consultant before retiring. He became a member of the Chamber of Commerce and a Rotarian, and was a proud and lifelong advocate of supporting local businesses. An athlete at North High School and Drake University in Iowa, he focused on golf and walking in his later years.
Allan married his bride, Helen (Baburek) of Omaha, in 1967, and was a beloved son-in-law to Martha and Joe Baburek. Allan is survived by his devoted wife, Helen Twedt, daughters Tara Twedt (husband-Richard Duke), Andrea Stumpf (husband-Shane) and son, Thor Twedt, his six beautiful grandchildren, Carina, Ian, Hannah, Carter, Bridget and Serena, his sisters, Sonja Morrison and De Betts, sister-in-law, Josie Boulter, and extended family. Allan was preceded in death by his brother, Rex Twedt and sister-in-law, Delores Twedt, his sister, Sandra Twedt, and older brother, Doug Boulter. He leaves behind new friends and caring staff at Hillcrest Country Estates in Papillion, who experienced his humor, his hope to engage with all the people he could, and his kind voice.
