I find myself today embraced in thoughts of yesterday's words like a carousel, repeating. "The song has ended, but the melody continues." I feel sadden by the loss but uplifted to fullfil my father's name sake. To try "to be that neighbor"  to try "do the right thing even when no one is looking" to try "to let others feel that unconditional love". The melody continues today...... My hope is I can help someone else to hear it

Wayne & I sat across from him & Mildred every Sunday in church. J S was an incredible man & I was blessed to know him!! I loved him & will miss him very much!! I know our Lord Jesus is taking care of him!! We wanted to come to the funeral but did not find out in time!! Rest in Peace my friend!!

I can't imagine the pain and grief of losing such a caring, extraordinary man...he was such an amazing person, and I was honored to have met him.  Rest peacefully in God's arms, but know that you are loved and missed greatly by your family and friends.  May God grant those struggling with his loss peace and strength to carry on.  Y'all are in my prayers.....

For a great human being gentlemen with a lot compassion and all that he said to me when visiting. He will be admirer by so many ppl. May God open the door to see peace in heaven. Don't won't to leave out his wondful wife and family our hearts go out to today.

Daddy, I know you are happy and free. You are with our Lord. Daddy I love you and will miss you so much!! I can't even begin to tell you how much I hurt. But I know it was your time, and you knew it was time. Because you told me so. But it still don't stop the pain I feel. God will get me through this. And I will see you again one day. I love you poppa.

We lost a very special friend.  We are going to miss him dearly. We have some fond memories of our times together!!!

Wayne and I agree with your granddaughter, this world has lost one of the finest men.  Mildred, we pray God gives you the comfort and peace you need at this time.  God bless you and your family and all the people that loved him.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Pawpaw was a sweet man.  I always felt a special tenderness exuding him.  I very much enjoyed and appreciate the personal conversations we shared.  Though he may not agree with your thoughts and ideas, i always felt he listened with compassion, without judgement, and unconditional love.  Thank you for all the life lessons you shared with me and for possibly the best holiday ham anyone has every tasted!    I love you Pawpaw.  You are greatly missed.

JS, my dear friend and faithful servant of God!  As a young minister attending seminary you taught me what cannot be learned in theological text books.  You demonstrated a servants heart and how to humbly serve and give yourself to other people.  A person is never more like Jesus than when that person is serving!  You, my fellow servant of God, was a wonderful example!  Philippians 2:5-7 (NIV) comes to mind:  "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:  Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant..."  Thank you for often refreshing my spirit, for being a faithful co-laborer for our Lord, and teaching me how to serve with humility and grace.
Now to my dear friend Mildred.  Your heart is broken and you feel empty.  Allow yourself to mourn over losing a loving helpmate for almost 43 years.  You too are an example of humility and grace with a servant's heart.  You and JS impacted me in ways unexplainable.  I was blessed that you were part of my life.  There is not a single word anyone can say to you to ease your grief.  Just remember that grieving is a journey.  It is not a one time event.  Rest assured that even in the darkest moments when the grief my appear more than you are able to endure that "The God of All Comfort who comforts us in ALL our troubles" ( 2 Corinthians 1:2-11) will be a present help and comforter to you.  You are blessed to be surrounded by many friends who will support you through the prayers that are already being placed before God on your behalf.  Be certain that Laura and I will be lifting you up on a daily basis in our thoughts and prayers.  You have been a faithful wife as you have served and ministered to JS.  You have the knowledge that you assisted him to the very best of your ability.  You are able to say, "no regrets".  Now, dear friend, please take time to care for yourself.  You are going through a time of mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual exhaustion.  You are running on empty.  It is now time for you to focus on caring for yourself, resting, and recharging your "batteries"   I am confident that the God of grace, mercy, and peace is going to meet your every need!

We will miss you, Uncle Smith! You reminded me so much of Grandpa. I will never forget calling you for your 89th birthday and having to call back because you were out mowing the lawn. I remember that when my 37 year old self complains about having to load a dishwasher! :) I love you so much!!!
