John Gunnel Shackleford, Jr, 83, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 surrounded by his family at Methodist Olive Branch. He was born on April 30, 1941, in Tate County, MS, to the late John and Zelma Shackleford. John served his country with distinction in the United States Army, stationed behind enemy lines prior to the Vietnam War. After his military service, John enjoyed a successful career as a truck driver, dedicating over 40 years to the profession before retiring. A man of many passions, John loved the outdoors—whether it was cutting the grass, building furniture, fishing, or occasionally hunting. His greatest passion, however, was his love for wrestling, from WWE to the legendary Memphis Wrestlers. Above all, John’s greatest joy came from being with his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the heart of his life. John’s legacy of love, devotion, and hard work will be cherished by all who were fortunate to know him. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Zelma Shackleford and two siblings, James Shackleford and Doris Douglas. John leaves behind the love of his life of 54 years, Norma Jean Shackleford; three children, Craig Shackleford (Retta), Janet Williams (Mike), and Joe Shackleford; two sisters, Donnie Jamison and Marsha Harris (Donnie). He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Amie Shackleford (Julie Horton), Amber Jordan (Jeff), Rebecca Wiley (Cody), Jessica Cockrell (Josh), Jon-Michael Williams (Cheyenne), and 8 great-grandchildren.
