James Robert Raley

James Robert “J.R.” Raley, 78, of Barton, MS, passed away October 9, 2011. The family will receive friends beginning at 12 Noon Wednesday, October 12, with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m., all at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Southwoods Cemetery on Hacks Cross Road in Memphis. Born in Water Valley, MS, James graduated from Water Valley High School, and he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Illinois Central Gulf Railroad after 30 years of service. A 22 year member of Germantown Baptist Church, James was proud to serve as an usher and deacon. He was preceded in death by his son, James Philip Raley; and 4 brothers. James is survived by his wife of 54 years, Juanita Raley; his daughter, Melanie Raley Phillips (Kevin); his son, Robert Michael Raley (Debbie); 8 grandchildren, Angela, Amanda, Andrea, Alissa, Kristine, John, Dalton, and Kendall; 7 great grandchildren; and his sister, Flora Mills.
