Doris Wilson Garner was born in Memphis, TN on December 10, 1929 to Dalice and Ethel Wilson. She passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 14, 2024. Doris graduated from Messick High School and earned a B.A. in education from Memphis State College. She was married to James Marvin Garner for 55 years until his death in 2006. They shared four daughters. Doris taught second grade in the Memphis City School System for 31 years until her retirement in 1991. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmamma, great grandmamma, teacher and friend. Doris will be greatly missed by all who knew her and were touched by her kind and gentle spirit. Doris was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Olive Branch, MS for many years and was a faithful servant of her Lord Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dalice and Ethel Wilson; her husband of 55 years, James Marvin Garner; her brother, Dr. Gene Wilson, and her daughter, Cindy Garner Stanfill. Doris is survived by her three daughters, Robin White (Pat), Mary Davidson (Orin), Jamae Hooper (Trell), and by nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church or a charity of donor’s choice. Family will receive friends on Monday, January 22, 2024 from 12:00 am to 1:00pm at Brantley Funeral Home. A private family funeral service will be Monday, January 22, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, MS 38654. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Southwoods.
